Ellie is doing good again today. She has been alert more today than ever before and we absolutely love it. Her pharmacy made nutrients are gone, so she is on milk only!! Her sedative is gone and her morphine has been cut in half. Her Nitric Oxide was dropped from 20 to 15. She is much more alert today but hates her ventilator tube that goes in her mouth and down her airway. She has been gaging, coughing and crying (no noise though) more today than ever before. This absolutely breaks our heart. We want to scoop her up and comfort her but we can't. She is however able to cough up the normal mucus and junk that forms in the airway. This is a very good sign. She is alert and awake and strong enough to get it up and out, which is great. She will continue to have more secretions and mucus because of her ventilator/breathing tube.
Ellie has one of her favorite nurses back tonight and she is so happy. This wonderful lady loves Ellie so much and is so compassionate....even more importantly, she is super smart! It's so nice to develop a relationship with Ellie's nurses because they get to know Ellie and we get to know them. We develop a trust and a bond with them, which is so important because they are caring for the most important thing to us on earth. Most of the nurses here are phenomenal. Sure, our personalities and characters don't mesh with everyone of them, but when it's all said and done, all we want is smart, capable, compassionate nurses, and that's what we are getting! We feel so blessed to be at a world renowned children's hospital with second to none medical care. Only the best for our Ellie!
Please continue to pray for all of our new friends here at the NICU. Theses infants and parents are going through difficulties that most of us never have to go through. Being a NICU parent is one of the most difficult things anyone can go through. Please, please pray for all of us and our babies at Children's. God bless!
